Privacy Policy

TL;DR?

I’m a copywriter. I like to help people sharpen up their communications. I’ve no interest in selling on your data to make a profit. I also know how rotten it feels to learn your data has been breached. I’m angry too that the likes of Facebook use people’s data for their own monetary gain. So I don’t do that. I do everything I can to make sure any data I have of yours is both valued and protected.

WHO IS NATALIE SMITHSON

I am an independent copywriter working for clients on copywriting and marketing tasks. My website address is: https://nataliesmithson.com.

What personal data I collect and why

Contact forms

If you complete one of my contact forms, the information you provide in that form is delivered to my email inbox. It may then be stored in a contacts database or directory indefinitely, which is accessed by me or members of my team.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are so you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Information about how you use my site is shared with technology partners I use for things like social media, advertising, or website analytics. They may hold other data about your use of their own services and, thus, merge that information together.

Who I share your data with

You information may be shared with any third party I rely on to run my business. For example, email providers and payment processing platforms. Your data is only shared in connection with business activity.

It will be necessary to share information if I am ever required to prevent, investigate, or take action regarding any illegal activity I suspect or know of.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

I keep any information you have voluntarily shared, like contact details, indefinitely.

What rights you have over your data

You can request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where I send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
